Driving music........

OK, I know you are supposed to turn the radio off and listen to the music of the flat six. But sometimes I like to crank the tunes on the freeway and haul ass. I was just curious what others on this board prefer to listen to that gets their adrenaline pumping. You know, the tunes that really seem to make sense when the landscape is a blur in your peripheral vision and the heart is pumping faster than the flat sixes oil pump. I'll chime in with my favorites after I read yours.

Early Elton John ballads ...

Simon & Garfunkel, almost anything ... but, especially "Bridge Over Troubled Water' ...

Music of my youth: Beatles, Zep, Who, CSNY, Allman Brothers, Eagles, Black Sabbath, Elton. I agree with Warren, Madman Across the Water, and expecially Tumbleweed Connection. And of course, Honky Chateau.

Now: Same plus. Van Morrison. Neil Young. Joe Cocker, UFO, Nazareth.

Everyone admits the magic has been gone, mostly, from pop music for two or three decades.

To answer your question, seriously, opera's been doing it for me. Andrea Boceli. Powerful stuff. And The Who, Tommy. Opera again, I guess.

This morning I blasted myself with Great Gig in the Sky, Pink Floyd.

I don't know about you guys, but I tend to crank up some Dave Matthews Band. Not much beats their "Crash" album, but you need to be mindful not to let "Life immitate Art" LOL

Possibly the Insider soundtrack, Jeff Buckley, The Verve, Sneaker Pimps or Eric Clapton. Eclectic, I know, but it works!

Don't knock it till you try it, but Metallica's S&M Album. Metallica songs accompanied by the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. Golden!

Superman, ditto on the Floyd. I love the whole Dark Side of the Moon album, especially Time and also Great Gig in the Sky. R.E.M.s Orange Crush kicks ass at speed. Leave It by Yes. Red Skies at Night by The Fixx. Nine Inch Nails the whole Pretty Hate Machine album and Closer. Too many beatles tunes to list.

OK Warren, I'm with you on the Rumors album. My sister had it on vinyl when I was 7 and I fell in love with the pictures of Stevie Nicks on the sleeve and inside cover. My personal fav is Gold Dust Woman from that album.

BB King, Clapton, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Stone Temple Pilots, Rush, Joe Walsh, ZZ Top, Alice in Chains, Ted Nugent, AC DC, Wagner, Mozart, lots more.

I even like some of the new stuff, like Korn, Kid Rock, Limp Bizcut and Green Day.

My wife loves Andrea Boceli, but I can only take him in small doses. She also has a CD called "Mob Hits" of old Italian songs, Not my first choice, but tolerable.

Right now in the CD changer is:

Perfect Circle, Candlebox, Judas Priest, Jane's Addiction, The Police, and White Zombie.

I guess I might be more in Warrens era of music. How about the Beatles Back in The USSR, or in a mellow mood a little BB King...screaming down the highway George Thoughgood BAD TO THE BONE or Golden Earings RADAR LOVE....

I just thought of another one. She Sells Sanctuary by The Cult. It's the background music for that "New Maxima" commercial.

I forgot to add Faith No More to that list.

Namely, Epic, Midlife Crisis, Ashes to Ashes and Last Cup of Sorrow!
