Tire Sizes

I just got 7" and 8" rims for my stock 86 Carrera. Can someone suggest tire sizes to go on these rims without rubbing? Or what mods are needed for a bit bigger tires? This is a common upgrade for track use so someone must have some suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

Britt,

Assuming you are talking about 16" Fuchs wheels, 205/55ZR-16 in front, and 245/45ZR-16 in back.

Oops... I was talking about 7x16 and 8x16 inch rims. The sizes you mentioned seem to be the stock sizes (less the 45 series on the rear). Anyone used anything slightly larger (ie slightly wider and down in series)?

OK, clearances are critical in front, but you MIGHT be able to fit 225/50ZR-16!

Warren is right. I rolled the lips on my front fenders and have fender clearance for 225/55/16s up front, but when turning, the tires rubbed the air dam, so I dropped back to 205's.
Check turning clearances before you drive far on the new tires if you try the 225's.

The correct -- meaning least sidewall flex -- is 225 in back, 205 in front.

The widest you can fit is 225 front, 245 back, but you may have clearance problems.

Warren is correct about what makes the most sense -- 245 in back, where sidewall flex is less of an issue, 225 in front, where sidewall flex could do you more harm.

I am running 255/45s under the rear of my 89 Carrera on Fuchs 8 x 16 rims. One degree of negative camber keeps the rubber off the fender. Its a tight fit, but looks great and the back of the car stays where it's supposed to.

My 88 is mounted w/ 7 and 8 Fuchs and I'm running 225x55x16 and 245x45x16 no rolled fenders and no rubbing w/SO2's.
