Hi
I have a problem. I have lost my drawing of my alt. wiring. the wires are 2 brn, 1 blk, 1 red, 1 grn. The back of the alt flipped down from its mount, going counter clockwise at 12:00 position . DF is the slotted plug, next is B+ which is the plus or neg terminal. the next bolt is also B+, then+61, D- and last is D-. This is a Marchal part and porsche # is71.233 02. Hope this was clear to understand. I too, am a not so happy motor meister owner. |

Did you find out what the black wire is for? I'm in the same dilemma.

G'day RoninLB...
Thanks for the link. I looked at the back of the alternator for a male spade connector for the black wire, but did not find one. I'll look again this weekend. Is it possible that this alternator is not the original and does not have the black wire? Regards Mike |

Black is the DF wire for external regulator.
It is possible that the alternator was changed to an alternator with internal regulator. The internal regulator is obvious when looking at the opposite end of the fan. The so called upgrade to internal regulator is suggested by Porsche. Some say engine heat damages the internal regulator. A few guys around here have had trouble with the transistorized external regulator. By design it's good but in cars it may be a quality problem. I have heard great results with marine quality external regulators but that change is a little involved for auto use as many marine regulators function differently. hope this helps.
