rear torsion bar removal

I have a 1970 911S and I'm trying remove the rear torsion bars. The right side outer cap is frozen tight to the torsion bar. Probably rusted together. Does anybody have suggestions for getting the cap separated from tne bar?

Thanks,
JB

I feel Your pain. Check the thread under torsion bars, and Tlook to see what I mean.
I had to cut the bottom of my beautiful Turbo fenders to get the damn torsion and springplate out of the tube!!

If anything...spray ALOT of PB Blaster in there, and walk away from the mess for at least a day. Then when you come back--TORCH it and give her hell..........

OK, if you take off the opposite swing arm, remove that other tosion bar, and bolt the retaining plate for the stuck side in place, you should be able to knock the stuck bar loose from the other side with a large wooden dowel just small enough to pass through the splined area at the center of the tube ... about 1.25" should be about right. Pound with large mallet, and eventually the torsion bar and cap should come all of the way out of the spring plate and be loose. Wire brush the formerly stuck end of the bar and clean thoroughly before trying to reassemble. When reassembling tosion bars, apply liberal amount of wheel bearing grease to entire length of painted area. Apply anti-seize compound to splines. Good luck!
