tire size question

I used the search, but still need some input. I have a set of new 205/50-15 Kuhmo Exctas on 7X15 phone dials on my 911E. I don't like the phone dials on an early 911, but have a set of 6X15 fuchs with crap tires. Other postings here have alluded to 205/50-15s on 6X15 phone dials, although 205/60-15s seem to be preferred. But I already have the 50s.

So I go to my local tire guy, and he says he won't put the 205/50-15s on the 6X15 fuchs because the car will handle terrible. Not because it will be too bumpy, but it won't track right. He's OK with 60's, though.

Who here has the 205/50's on 6X15 fuchs? How's it handle? Is my tire guy full of BS?

Tire guy is full of it. My track tires for my '72T has had 205/50 15 VictorRacers or Toyo RA1 on Fuchs and Cookies for years. No problem at all.

I can't comment specifically on Fuchs, but I have run 205x50s on a 6 " rim on a previous car. 205 is a bit wide IMO. The steering was slower and mushy compared to a 195x50/55. I think 6.5-7" rim is more ideal for a 205. I also thought the 205 looked too fat on the 6.

Tire guy is full of it, don't know why he would say that as the only difference will be harshness of ride on the 50's vs better ride on the 60's.
I had 225/50X15R1's on 7" for my track car and it was fine.

Thanks, guys. I'll go elsewhere and put the good tires on the fuchs. Anyone want some phone dials?
