Recaro Seat question. What are these?
Ok, we all know what the second one is, but what is the third one from the left? Anyone?
I've been looking around trying to fine any information I can on these, so any help would be appreciated. I got the pic from the Recaro Site. http://www.recaro.com/index.php?id=1107®ion=3&L=2 ![]() Was this ever installed in a Porsche with the good Dr.'s blessing? I know that there are some early Recaro Sport seat gurus out there, but maybe you have not-so-early-sport-seat powers as well? Thanks guys. Tim K |

I have seen them but forget their name. Believe it was in a Porsche.

ALL of those seats are their "period" aftermarket seats....including the 2nd from left. The "recaro" badge in the seat back is your giveaway. The seats installed by the factory never had the "recaro" badge in them. The 3rd from left seats are period to roughly 1974. They use the same recliners as a 74-77 sport seat from my memory. They were never a factory option.

Thanks everyone. I'm going for a mid-year-ish look, and I thought they'd look appropriate. It would be nice if they were a little lighter than their older brother though.... I don't mind if they were never installed in a Porsche, but I guess there may not be as much experience with them here on PP (though we seem to have a very diverse crowd). |

How much does the one you want weigh?
Generally wt. savings in Pcar seats occur [1] around 1974 when the factory dumped heavy, smelly horse-hair for foam; and [2] when you get a one-piece seat that does not tilt, so-called race shells. And Joe - can we lose the lengthy tag quote? It's much longer than your replies.

Randy, I don't know if there is a target weight, but less is ALWAYS better ![]() GTS has a seat that they call the "Monte Carlo". This looks like something that could possibly have been installed in an early short hood. ![]() However, I DON'T NEED an adjustable back. It seems that all of the vintage "buckets" that are available look too early. Am I crazy? Would those "R" and "ST" seats not look out of place in a sport-purpose 74 911? ![]() Tim K |

Looks may compromise the need for light wt.
You'll want to collect some info and compare the seats. INclude Sparco if you want. Wt. in the middle of the car is much less imp. for vehicle dynamics than at the rear or top....

I am going through the exact same process right now with my '74. I have a set of reclining Recaro's that sort of look like the third from the end in your picture. But I want a bucket. I love the looks of the GTS seats. Since my car has all bright trim - it looks a little more vintage than the black trim cars. I thought maybe I could pull it off - just not sure. I've asked but gotten no reply as to what would have been the fixed back seat installed in the car in '74 (either factory RS/RSR or aftermarket sportsracers). Don

The third one from left looks very close to the recaro sport seats that were optional in the '84-93 E30 3-series BMWs and standard in the 80s BMW "M" cars. *very* comfy seats for a skinny guy like me.

Well I think I found a pair of these seats in thesamba.com's classifieds. However, the seller was very vague in his reply to my request for better pics and more info. Then the ad disapeared.... Sold? Sheister? Who knows?
Anyhow, here is one of the pics that he had posted. Pretty fuzzy. ![]() It appears that they are missing their head rests. The guy said that they came out of a 1963 356 of all things. I found a pic of the early M5 Recaro seats. They're nice, but not quite what I'm after. The 935 "lollypop" seats would have been around at the right time, but they would be a little overkill (not to mention a little pretentious for such a modest power plant). ![]() Tim K |
