Installed these but now what? I needed to replace the rear speakers, which I learned were not stock. I guess the rear speakers for the deck were mounted under the perforated leather. Well I removed a pair of Boston Acoustic 4x6 plate speakers and tried a pair of Sony 6.5 round and they fit right into the existing holes. But the didn't cover the previous mounting area so now I'm left with the old perforated leather and a couple screw holes. They sound better than the blown old speakers but not fantastic. I'm wondering if I should try 6x9 back there and just cut the hole that's needed. Probably better range and sound. Any thoughts. I got 30 days to return these if so. I guess some places would make plate or something to cover the old marks.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1175147642.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1175147653.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1175147663.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1175147672.jpg |

Well, now you've done it. You've hit "While you are in there". You could start to embellish your simple project and remove the rear shelf and customize to a 6x9 config and recover :D I don't think you will get great sound with any size speakers you mount back there. Dave |

Your probably right but what makes you say that? |

The best place for speakers in a 911 is in the doors. The rears are not nearly as important - they just help 'fill' the sound. Good component speakers with a crossover is what you want in the doors. I have Boston Acoustics in the rear and MB Quart components in the doors. All four are run off an amp in the front trunk. |

About the sound? I have been out of car audio for a while, but, the rear shelf is not conducive to sound. You have a metal bottom and very little space between that and the thin hardboard/vinyl top. Also, the mid range and tweeters bounce off the rear window at a funny angle. I live with the stock speaker sizes (modern speakers) and a newer tuner. The engine has a fantastic sound by itself! I had my entire upholstry redone for my 77 Targa. Had Upholsterer cover all speaker holes, front and back. No problem worrying about speaker placement/size. Only interested in hearing a flat six. Thats music to my ears... |
