Questions regarding a '91 964 C4
I have a few questions regarding a '91 964 C4:
1. How much (if any) more are the maintenance costs compared to a "regular" 964? 2. How reliable is the AWD transmission on the C4 compared to the C2? Thanks, Bill Wagner |

The AWD system on early C4's were highly sophisticated and based on the 959's. Although I have heard they are not problematic, they do have several knocks against them. First is the added weight the complicated system gives to an already heavy car. Second is the handling characteristics. These cars feel like front wheel drive cars according to B. Anderson. He seems to think they make good winter cars. I think that is a kind way of saying he doesn't like them. This system was improved with the C4 993's. Less intrusive and more traditional. My thoughts are that unless you are driving in poor conditions or have tons of torque that 2 wheels can't handle, rear wheel drive is what's best.

I have a 94 C4 and I love it. the car drives very stable. I have put 9k on it and have had no issues at all. I would buy one again. My understand the c4 is about + 175 pounds. So if things are that critical about weight I guess we should go on a diet and never fill the tank with gas. ------------------ 1994 C4 Wide Body BnB cone filter, chipped |
