Can't open the engine lid at all now...
I was trying to re-align the trunk lid but i put everything back the way it was but now I cant open the trunk. Even with one person pulling the release lever and me lifting on the trunk lid. I need some suggestions please..http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1175206674.jpg

Is it binding at the latch or at the top where it could touch the body (below the rear window)?
If it is at the latch, loosen off the bolts for the latch if you can get in there - the fit looks like you night be able to get a wrench in there. If it is at the top, pull the lid toward the rear of the car as you open it up. |
The latch is not releasing even when I have one person pull the lever and I lift up on the trunk lid.

Is there any free play? Can you move the lid around - from side to side while someone is pulling on the T-handle?
|
You may have to take off the muffler and release the hatch by grabbing the cable or manipulating the catch somehow. IIRC the default (if the cable snaps) is to be open.
|
Try pushing down on the lid while someone else pulls the release, and as they are pulling lift up. Somtimes brute force works as well.

Once you get it open, you can take the upper latch off the deck lid, and then insert it into the lower part, check to see that the cable is pulling the lower catch open enough to release. You may have to adjust the cable (not likley but maybe). Once you see how it works without having to worry about locking yourself out it may help you get it adjusted right.
Good luck..... I've been where you are....:) |
yup, you might have to take off the muffler in order to reach the mechanism.
we took off the grille and airbox while installing the engine lid, so that we always could reach the lock when it would be wrongly setup. hope it works out for ya! :) aligning the engine lid is no piece of cake, you gotta play with washers between the lid and arms, slide it forward, backward, en while doing that you gotta make sure that the pin of the lid is perfectly centered in the hole of the lock. Pay attention to the upper side of the lid when you close it gently: don't let it touch the bodywork above, or you might loose some paint. Take a good look at the lock, and see how it works without the lid on, and adjust it correctly before you try to close the lid. Get a few beers too, because you could be busy for a while ;) good luck! jan |
The beer might be the only thing in your guys instructions that I can manage. I think I'm going to have to take it to the Autowerks shop and have him get it open.
I tried last night for a while to get it open but nothing seemed to work. It was weird while I had someone pull the lever I tried lifting, didn't work, I tried a little side to side wiggle, no didn't work. I tried to push down a little more while the latch was pulled out, it latched again even lower. Then when latch was let go it pop up a little but didn't release.:( |
For the cost of the shop to do it, you might be better off cutting the cable at the door jamb to get the deck lid open and replace the cable. Very easy to replace.
