Sunroof glitch - any suggestions?

In anticipation of my "any suggestions" question, I'm not ready to weld it shut - YET

Replaced the sunroof cables on an 88 Carrera. Upon completion, when I pressed the sunroof switch, 3 times in a row the sunroof smoothly opened and closed. The 4th time it opened about 2" and wouldn't open any further. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

Yesterday I was working on the sunroof of my '83 and ran into almost the exact same problem. In my case the nylon glide strip that fits under the leading edge of the sunroof on the left hand side had fallen off when I was reinstalling the panel. This strip allows the sheet metal edge to bridge over This allowed the sheet metal to fall into the slight notch created by the joint of the wind deflector panel and its support arm leaving it stuck about 2" open. To get it to move I had to reach around the top of the car and depress the wind deflector which freed up the panel.
Took the roof back off again and dug around in the cavity (an airhose with a nozzle tip really helps here to get all the loose junk like leaves that had worked their way into the area) and found the missing bit.

Hi there, If you still find a problem, try replacing the 2 springs either side of the sunroof, you may find that helps, Chris
