Exhaust Gas Analyzer

I'm looking for an exhaust gas analyzer to aid in the adjustment of the a/f mixture on my '77 911S and several other cars. Anyone have any suggestions?
I've found two inexpensive($125-200) models made by an English company by the name of Gunson(the colortune folks). They are the Gastester and Gastester Pro. Anyone familiar with these analyzers?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks for your help,

Scott Kail

Those cheap analyzers use an oxygen sensor for their measurement. Not the most comprehensive way to go about it. Good enough, I suppose, for the shade tree mechanic but lacking sorely in accuracy. Without a proper measurement of at least 4 gases you really can't trust the reading. Example is that if you have a plug misfiring you are going to have an abundance of oxygen in the exhaust and the sensor will show lean. You need at least a Hydrocarbons reading to detect misfires. Under perfect circumstances the cheap setup will alow you to set CO (lean/rich) however. Of course you're looking at at least 4K for a good 4 or 5 gas analyzer so I guess for the money, it's better than nothing.

Years ago a exhaust gas analyser was available from Heath-Kit as a kit. It was a simple one using thermal diodes in a bridge comfiguration. I still have mine but I do not believe it functions very well with catalytic converters and such. One might be found on Ebay. Most modern fuel injection systems have an O2 sensor and have great self diagnostics. What you need for that is a code reader.
