Adjusting valves
Hi,
I'm doing some tune up work on my 77s. I've adjusted valves many times before, but having just read Waynes book, my old method of turning the crank a bit then checking for cam lobes and then keeping track of which ones i adj. on a crude diagram. I thought I would do it smart and just turn things 120 and do each valve set. But when I got to cyl. 2, the valve was open! So what am I doing wrong, was the notch on the distributor not the right one or was I 360 off on it? Just wondering, as my old method works but involves a lot of up and down! |

At 120, you have to go to the correct cylinder, not no 2.

if you look at your crank pully, its divided into 3's with marks, if you clean your pully good and highlight the marks with white-out it makes things easier and faster.

Well, that explains it! I was using the DIST. for my 120 reference. I will try again the right way and use the crank! Thanks.

Don,
Thanks for the "kick to the head" for some reason my brain was telling me to watch the rotor not the crank pulley! sure enough I double checked the section in the book and it said pulley also. I just tried again and found the marks on the pulley and got the valves adjusted the easy way. I never like to rule out my own stupidity as a possible cause of a problem! Rutager |
