Installing Rear Seats
 

I'm looking to tackle my first major project for my new Porsche. When I bought the car, it was an electrical mess with a sub-woofer in the back.

I've recently had that all cleaned up, and now I'm looking at reinstalling the back seats that came with the car in a box. It appears that the seats were taken out fairly roughly, without the thought of ever putting them back in. I'm thinking the first step to this job is to start sanding the interior down and then spraying painting where I sanded. Does this sound like a good idea or am I going about it wrong? I've seen a bunch of posts about taking seats out...but haven't found much on putting them back in unless I'm looking in the wrong places. This is where I am at right now.

is that glue or rust?

can leave glue there if stuck down well & glue over it.

do you plan a carpet change/upgrade?

As far as I can tell, most of it is glue (dark down stuff). The lighter brown areas are peices of the bottom of the seat cushions still stuck there from the glue. There is a small cutout with two small wire holes in the seat area behind the passenger side seat. I'm thinking there might be a little rust there, not sure why though. But it looks like the metal should be red, and it looks a little brown. Perhaps it's more glue from the speaker installation, but they weren't sticking like they were glued at all.

So you think I should just sand out that little area of rust and leave the rest as is?

I wan't planning on changing out any of the carpets. Trying to keep this a real cheap job. I plan on cleaning everything up, but using all the original parts that I have.

use a rust reducer if it is light rust

scrape any loose stuff off; then you'll use new glue for your new carpet.

Heres a quick close up pic of mine. You basically looking at the seat belt mounts and the rear seat attachments - nothing major to put yours back.

what did you do with the sub enclosure?

Sitting in my garage collecting dust. I'll probably sell it once I take a better look at it. It came with the car and I'm not too sure what everything is.

Ok, been slacking on the updates. The job isn't anything to write home about, but I can claim it as my own. Would probably look better if I had new parts, but I was trying to install the original parts back in the car. The seats didn't clean up as well as I thought they would have...but that's what you get when the PO stored them for 12 years in a cardboard box.

I did a little sanding and found out that it wasn't rust, but some kind of insulation residue. Vacuumed out the car and sprayed some carpet cleaner all around. Found some nice red paint underneath. Put down some carpet glue I bought from Home Depot. The guy told me one jug should just about do it...I have like 3/4 of the jug left. :p Guess I bought a little too much, but the carpet laid down real nice.

I let that sit for about 6 hours and went out and more glue down and placed in the seat bottoms.

Then I let it all sit for a good 24 hours and everything seemed nice and stuck. So I started working on putting the seat backs in with the confetti of hardware that came with the car. I think I have all the right screws in, but I may be missing some for the buckles.

However, there is one slight problem. The seats won't stay up. Seems one seat is missing a red peg, and I'm missing some kind of screw or dowel that fits in these holes. Anyone know what the part number for those are and if our host sells them?
