engine oil dye to find leaks
I know this is not a new topic, but this engine oil dye is the ticket! I just put 2 bottles in, one bottle is usually used but I figure 12 qts deserves two bottles. degreased the engine, and took it for a spin. when I got back I dug out my old black light ( we never really let go of the 70's do we?) and looked around the engine with the garage lights off. like....trippin' dude! seriously, the leaks show up very well. some stains showed that weren't leaks, but if the color rubs off onto your finger it's oil. I may achieve that leak-free engine yet. does anyone know if there's any harm in leaving this dye in the crankcase? I put in 2 - 1 oz bottles. Don.

I would have assumed the bottle would have tell you if you need to change the oil after diagnosis.
As for the rest of us, maybe we should put some in and install a permanent black light system in our garages...TECHNICOLOR! I can't imagine a 911 that truly has NO leakage whatsoever.

Not a problem to leave it in. It is not uncommon to throw it in at an oil change and check it at the next change for leaks. Does make it look like its glowing though, even without the black light.
![]() There were even rumors at one point in time that some domestic makes added it to the engine at factory..
