Appreciation Gift From Pelican Parts Question...
I have gotten several "Appreciation Gift From Pelican Parts" emails with codes but they have all been for mugs and mouse pads. I was wondering if someone has gotten the 10% off or $20 off a purchase of $200 or more as I need to buy several hundred $$ of parts and would appreciate the code if you can PM me. I got one around Xmas time but it has expired. Please PM me. Thx, Andrew

Hey, I know the feeling. I usually order right after any web receipt they sent me has expired. Its just the way luck runs for me some times. I think they send them out to everyone at the same time.
Its nice that they send them out though, Matt

I was waiting for the % discount as well for my last order. Got the (Boxster) mousepad offer instead. When I called to place order I asked if there was any other promotion available. Nope. So I placed my order for $600. Guess what I got two weeks later? 10% off next order. AArrrgg!
Keeps it interesting anyway. I didn't know the codes were transferable. Does Wayne know we're up to shenanigans? (guess he does now)

But publicy asking for them on this forum does seem a bit blatant IMO....

How much do you need to order to get those? I've ordered >$3,500.00 and haven't seen one.

I think they also have to do with whether or not you fill out the survey request after an order. I have been doing that lately and have recieved several offers of varying sorts from Pelican.

Hi guys. I'll pipe in. I don't really mind horse-trading, as the purpose of the coupons is to encourage repeat purchases. How that happens in practice doesn't really matter in the end.
Yes, the computer picks a number from one to ten, and then picks from a set of offers. These change all of the time, and I currently don't have it weighted towards one offer or the other... -Wayne

Then why the expiration date? It seems the thank you / incentive has the cart in front of the horse. I'd be much more surpirsed and grateful to learn that my order just rec'd a 5-10% price break as a thank you from Pelican Parts, upon receipt of an order. As explained above, its difficult to get excited about 10% off my next order, when I have been patiently waiting and assembling an order of needed parts, until that order can validate the associated shipping costs. I.E., a $600 order is received with a 10%, on the NEXT order. But when it comes time for that next order, the discount has expired. Perhaps it's just me, but I have a hard time feeling the love in that...

Wayne may chime in but my experience with accounting and rewards programs makes the "open-ended reward" somewhat risky and difficult to calculate/predict the vendor's liability. The risk is over time a whole bunch of these offers are out there un-used. All of a sudden a lot of people submit their rewards at the same time and the supplier has an operating cash flow shortage...

From a 5-10% discount? I think not. These are not gift certificates, which truly are a liability, they are basically a promotional cost to do increased business.
I too have had a "good one" expire and felt it shouldn't really expire. It kind of sends the message of thanks, but only if you buy again fast enough. I have to spread out my purchases a bit more than others and it sure would be nice to know when I pulled the next trigger, I had a little help to lessen the financial hit. Not complaining, just sayin' Wayne ![]() -Chris

Guys,
It's real simple. Get a wish list together in a project list. These are things that you don't need right away but will for the winter projects, etc. When you recieve the discount coupon you cash it in and place that big order. Don't be angry, be smart. Tom

Yes, there are ways to play the system a bit. Order $100 and wait to see what the next web certificate is for. Might be less, might be more. Then order the $500. Problem is, when I crack into my tranny I don't want to wait another month to see if I can save 5% or end up with 2 mousepads.
If every order Wayne gets mysteriously has a 10% discount (due to our trading) I'm sure the certificate system will soon disappear, or be made user-specific. The coupons are a carrot, just that sometimes we don't get the big carrot we wanted when we want it.
