New to the Forum
Greetings everybody! I've been reading the forum for quite awhile, enjoyed the posts a lot & decided to join. I'm not a pro, but I have a '72 911E (also a '67 912) up on stands completely disassembled & I'm doing the grunt work to redo it the way I would like it to be. Obviously, it's a loooong term project. I've learned a few things along the line & maybe I can offer some comments & suggestions from time to time.

I too have a 72 911E which I am in the middle of replacing the front suspension pan. After that I will be installing some SSI heat exchangers. Welcome to the group.

Welcome, just be prepared to explain to your significant other why you are now spending more time on-line and why you are spending more time on your P-car. Actually, mine is thankfull for all the advice and knowledge I am able to gain from this board.

Marv, take lots of pics and post them to the Gallery. We like to see what you're doing.

Thanks guys: I've had these Porsches for 10 years, so my wife has pretty much given up grumbling about the cost of things. Don't have a digital camera yet, but might post some pics when I get one. Today, I get the emgine back. It's a '77 w/ E cams, JE pistons, etc. It should run pretty well. That is after I finish the brakes, suspension, body/paint, interior, etc. etc, etc.

Hey, cool! Finally, another 912 owner! Now I don't feel like such a sore thumb. Marv, if you need any stock 912 parts, lemme know-my '66 is going back together with a lot of aftermarket stuff, so the original parts need a good home-us 912 guys gotta stick together.

Hey, I like 912s. They're really cool little cars just like 911s but with better handling!
A little less power but still a great car. I'd love to have one if I didn't live in salt-laden Ohio.------------------ Mark Szabo 1986 911 Targa 3.2 1987 Escort 5-speed 1.9 The Porsche Owners Gallery |

Clay:
Another member emailed me directly (maybe he didn't want to admit to a 912 on the board ??)about his 912. He's working on the inside & outside & looking for a reasonably priced motor for it. Maybe he can use some of your parts or anyone else' who has some. His email address is: sforshne@cobragolf.com ------------------ Marv Evans '72 911E |

Welcome, Marv! I don't think you will find many here prejudiced against 912s, or 914s, either! After all, they ARE air-cooled, and share the same design heritage with our front suspension, and transaxles with our 911s!

So I guess I shouldn't be too ashamed of my 72 Superbeetle. Cool.

Well, Jeff, I guess you will have to let your conscience be your guide on that one! But, I'm certainly not ashamed of my '66 Beetle, and Car and Driver did call the '75 Carrera ... 'The Superest Super Beetle of all ...'
And, I still believe that air-cooled Beetle ownership and maintenance is the best background possible for 911 owners that want to get into doing their own maintenance! The layout and 'systems familiarity' goes a long way to understanding the design philosophy and maintenance required of 911s! And finally, if you have any experience with your Super Beetle's CV-joints, you are a long way ahead of 99% of new 911 owners! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa [This message has been edited by Early_S_Man (edited 01-17-2001).] |

I agree: I doubt you'll find much 912 snobbery on this board. They're all the same really, just variations on a theme. Great stuff!
I really don't mind it when people (usually those sorts who drive the most insanely boring cars imaginable) call my car a jumped-up beetle. It's an honour . That car is what started it all, and it's success and longevity speaks for itself. I always give dubbie owners the 'wave' when I see them. Some get it, some don't. Who cares. We here know that little magnesium secret anyway.... ------------------ '72 911 TE |

Sorry, Marv-my '66 912 had a VW 1600 in it when I bought it, so I don't have any 912 engine parts-but I do have the stock lowback front seats, passenger front fender(that has been stripped, primed, and wet sanded-and I'll trade for a '69-'73 fender in really good shape), and the entire rear bumber assembly (center license panel, left and right bumpers, bolt-on reflectors, and trim)-know anybody that could use any of this stuff?

So I guess its okay that my other car is an 85 Vanagon camper. Park the 80 Targa next to it each night. All those round headlights in the back yard look kind of cute.
