Cleaning sensor plate on CIS

I read in the "ok boys....." thread that over filling the oil can cause a gunked up sensor plate and bowl. Well, when I bought my 82 SC, it's oil was over full. When the dealer fixed an oil leak, they overfilled it again. Anyway, I checked my sensor plate, and it is pretty oily.

Is there a proceedure for cleaning it, or do I just hose it down with carb cleaner?

Thanks,

Tom

I just pulled off the boot, and sprayed the plate and the funnel down with carb cleaner, and then wiped with paper towels. Lift the plate up and get around the edges, and also clean from underneath. I also cleaned up the throttle body and valve at the same time.

Tom,

To do a real good job of cleaning the sensor plate, you need to remove it. Once it's removed, look undeneath it to ensure there is nothing there that can cause problems.

I had to remove mine when I was doing work on my engine. The cavity was packed with a wax type substance. This may have been done at the factory, but it was all around the counter balance. I cleaned it out, lubricated the pin with lithium grease and reassembled it.
