Strong smell at start up? 1981sc 3.0

When I start-up there is a strong exhaust smell. The smell continues until the engine warms up completely. To me it smells as if the car is running rich. A little more information, I just passed smog with flying colors, and I don”Ēt seem to be burning oil, (other than what is leaking under the engine).

I”Ēm wondering if this is typical for a 1981sc?

I have the same problem on my 79 SC. PO had it sitting for about 6-8 months. My mechanic to me to run it and put some Techron fuel system cleaner through. I also have rough low rpm and deceleration. Was wondering if a tune up would fix this or maybe a fuel filter change.

Defintily common or even normal, these cars are not going to warm up clean like new cars, they all run rich for the first 5-10 minutes at least, and then level out. Once the car is warm even if you walk around it when idling you'll smell the exhaust, unlike any new cars these days.

Even though this is normal, are there any fixes I can do to minimize the exhaust smell?
