plastic tank help
Can anyone recommend the products used and the best way to clean an 85L plastic gas tank from my 73 911. Or is there a business out there that would do it? I really do not want to send it out, I want to do the scut work myself if I can get some direction. Thanks, SS

I did this to my 73 E a few years ago. Drain tank as much as you can.
Jack the front up and pull it. Use Jack Stands. Pull the sending unit out. Buy several (many) small bottles of alcohol at your local drug store and rinse it out several times. Be sure to shake it back and forth while holding it level. Another buddy would help. Also replace all the old hoses...I added an extra filter in front as well. Not a hard job to do at all. Just a little messy. K.T. 1973 911 E 2.4 MFI 1983 911 SC 1978 911 SC 1965 Devin "D" - 1967 912 Power Plant |

a lot of hardware stores sell denatured alcohol by the gallon too- less expensive than all those little bottles

Disconnect the battery first thing too.
In fact take it out like I did....you don't want any sparks. K.T. 1973 911 E 2.4 MFI 1983 911 SC 1978 911 SC 1965 Devin "D" - 1967 912 Power Plant |

I would assume cleaning a plastic tank would be a litte easier than cleaning the ole rusty one in my 912, but I did take it to a raditor shop locally and they diped it and applied a blatter so it came back to me rather nice. Good luck on your project as you`ll feel better about putting fuel in it after you have applied the planned mantience system to it .

plastic tanks do not accept coatings! That would be a great way to plug up your fuel system. Coatings for steel tank = good // plastic tank= NO good
