Is Gold a rare color?
Ok in the next month or 2 i am getting my mechanics Gold 1983 911 targa with 113,000 miles on it.....I was wondering if the Gold targa is rare and valuable....Because i have a very rare maroon color on my 944 and it brings up the value....I like having the only Maroon 944 in town...all the other ones are black or guards red.

I don't thing a car in a specific color is considered any more valuable since it is somewhat subjective. I don't recall seeing the Blue Book adding value to colors in there resale prices.

Raf,
If you think maroon 944s are rare, don't ever go to the campus of Texas A & M University in College Station, TX ... there are probably only 150-200 of them there ... ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

Gold? Is that the "Champagne" colour? I think "Champagne" is the official name. I looked at a chmapagne '82 SC and really liked it - including the brown interior (it reminded me of an old mark 1 VW Scirroco I used to have). My wife, however, hated it, so I guess it is all personal preference.
For me, the ultimate colour is black - and I know a few here will agree! Bill [This message has been edited by billyb (edited 01-18-2001).] |

In general I don´t think that any color will actually make a Porsche more valuable. More desirable yes, but not more valuable.
On the other hand some colors will make a Porsche less desirable and less valuable. Just think about a brown one... Last summer I met a ´84 Carrera owner, who had bought it from the original owner in 86. At the time he could only just afford a 911 and this one was the cheapest available, so he bought it. The original owner had found it difficult to sell because of the color, which was...GOLD. Mika |

I agree with Mika. Gold is NOT a popular Porsche colour.

If you're talking about the yellowish, bronze gold color, I don't care for it either. My '85 Carrera's color is called "white gold metallic" (brown leather interior). I thought it was "champagne" until I saw a color chart that says it was a special order. Is very close to silver, or gray w/ gold mixed in. Kinda neat 'cause when it gets dirty, it doesn't show! Really changes its looks in different kinds of light.

Andras Nagy and I have cars that are a fairly unusual factory color. Only offered in '83, and then again in '84 as a "custom" color for a premium, and never again. It is not a color I would have picked, but I realize now that it is a gorgeous color. Hard to describe.
It is called Quartz Grey Metallic in this country which is misleading. German is Rauche (Smoky) Quartz Metallic. It is a real chameleon. Looks dark at night. Looks bronzy in the day. Spectacular color. Slight pinkish hue. Reminds me of an old baseball glove or a dark cigar. The best single word is bronzy, Gold highlights. ------------------ '83 SC |
