No breather cover gasket

So I am addressing a decent oil leak and changing out the typical seals and gaskets. Last night I took the breather cover off and to my surprise I did not find a gasket. I don't have records on the car but it appears to be very original. Is this typical? Surely someone did not work on the car and forget to install a gasket as I assume a gasket was originally installed. Is a breather gasket a OEM install?
