86 vs. 87 Rear Sway Bar

As part of my suspension work, I'm planning on replacing the stock rear sway bar on my 77 with an OEM 21mm bar from an 86+ Carrera. Due to the different drop link attachment style for the -77 vs 78+ trailing arm, I will need to use the Tarett drop links to attach the bar to the arm at the spring plate rather than use the original ball post. I've considered attempting to back-out the post from the trailing arm and use the later OEM style drop links that bolt to the arm, but the cost is about the same and the Taretts seem to be a better solution.

So here's my question - Tarrets site indicates the drop links can be used with any 78-89 style sway bar. So I was going to place a post in the classified forum for a rear bar, however upon looking at the PET, I noticed that the part numbers for the 21mm 1986 bar and the 21mm 1987+ bars were different:

86: 911.333.701.10
87: 911.333.701.11

So which bar do I need? Is there is difference due to the G50? Will either work?

thanks,
Frank

Either will work. I am currently running an 87-89 bar on my 86 as the original one was pretty pitted. The difference is for the G50 trans and the bar has a kink at the mid point but it does not interfere with anything and the mounts work exactly the same.

FWIW, I modified the drop links on my mid-year to work with the later sway bar. You just need to add a metal sleeve in the bushing that meets the bar.

Tony,
Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to hear.

Jon,
Yes, I saw the link which I believe describes the setup you are using (link below). It does present one other option (as if I need more).
