I have a 2.7L with webers, solex cams and RS size ports. It runs great. This is only an 8.5 compression ratio so that should not be a problem. My mechanic says the zeniths don't work well with different cams. I would think you should hog out the ports to take advantage of the cams too.

That's correct on the Zenith problem. The 27mm venturis in the zeniths are too small even for T cams. The Solex cams have a little more top end a little less bottom end than E cams but are very similar. Your engine, being Zenith equipped should have T cams in it stock. Those are all low and mid-range grunt cams. The Solex cams will need to breathe much more freely than the T cams so you'll need more like 34mm venturis to take advantage of the better flow of the Solex cams. You'll give up some bottom end response and power and gain quite a bit more mid and top-end power with the Solexes. I believe Motor Meister can modify your Zeniths for this change or you can get Webers which will directly bolt on in place of the Zeniths, they have the same manifolds and linkage etc.
With the venturi change you'll need to change all the jets to match as well as the emulsion tubes that are cam-specific. ------------------ Tyson Schmidt 72 911 Cabriolet |
