Fire extinguishers- what type?
After seeing that car on e-bay I figure it's time to invest in some security, a fire extinguisher.
Halon seem a bit expensive!.Any leads? Otherwise would dry powder do extensive damage to the engine?. Must be better than nothing or a residue of melted nothing!? any reccomendations greatly recieved rgds Ben |

here are the fire extinguishers i carry:
they come with brackets that are PCA legal. yeah, i know it ain't halon, but i also ain't made of money ![]() http://www.ioportracing.com/fire.htm i/o port racing has THE BEST prices on them. don't bother looking for a better deal because i looked for weeks before i got them. the owner is also a PCA racer. again, i'm amazed pelican doesn't carry these. good luck! obin |

Thanks Obin,
Seems like the 2 1/2lb Halon is not that unreasonable at $130 if they have any left?. Will call them on Monday. Tahnks again Rgds Ben |

Ben,
I carry a 5 lb Halon extinguisher ... if you ever need to use it, you can consider the pricetag the cheapest insurance premium you ever paid! Then again if you need it, and don't have it on hand ... ??? ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

You should be able to get a 2.5lb halon for much less than 130 -- I got a couple last year, the most expensive was chrome for 99, including the 2-strap bracket I think. Check w/ OG Racing, Racer Wholesale, Northstar Motorsports and other Pano or Excel. advertisers.
Don't want to start another fire extinguisher bracket thread, but be sure you mount it securely and in a reachable spot. You do not want a 2.5-5.0 lb metal projectile inside your car in the event of a quick stop or accident. I have the Brey-Krause seat bracket mount, very happy w/ it. |

I don't know about other regions but our local PCA keeps regular old style fire wextinguishers in the corners so after your 2.5 lb halon unit is gone your car is gonna get squirted down with the regular kind so I am not sure its worth it to get the halon one.

dbanazek....
that's one of the major reasons i got the ones i have. the Halon is an EXCELLENT CHOICE for a workshop though. just a bit of a stretch for me to shell out $130 for one at the time i bought them. obin |

Halon extinguishers are about 35% cheaper if you buy reconditioned ones. I just ordered a couple from:
