Obin, psyhedelic interior
Obin, can you post a picture of that 944 psychedelic interior you mentioned in a previous post?I have a 82 911SC that might have that same rare(UGLY?) style.I've only seen this look in one 928 and a 79 930. Thanks in advance. Eddie 82 911SC

Michael Benet of Imagine Auto had a 930 with orange, black, and white checkered seats. The squares made a wild psychedelic pattern. He called it his "disco" car. Ha!

Eddie,
I believe the original 916 imported for/by Peter Gregg also had the psychedelic motif ... not a great intro, in my opinion, but almost prophetic of the turmoil within Porsche management at the time! The interior of the 916 was featured on p. 598 of Ludvigsen's Porsche: Excellence Was Expected. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

ok, let me borrow a digital camera and i'll take some pics asap for you. if i don't do it by monday, remind me by e-mail. i'll put them on the site.
the pattern, by the way, is oficially called "pasha". it is a bunch of black and white checker designs on the seats. there was an option to get the car in FULL psychedelic interior but that is RARE! Ferdinand Porsche himself had a 928 with a full pasha interior. obin |

I remember for a while, those old colors and patterns seemed god awful, until everything became honda-sterile. Or whatever it is now...totally nondistinct.
Now, I'd be proud to be driving a little 914 that was Bright Orange, with checkered seats, and that terrible 916 vinyl (saw a picture of it in a 914 book)...it's a time capsule, and it's refreshing. |

Obin, thanks for the picture. I have the same Austin Powers look seats, but not the door panels. My wife covers the seat with her jacket for some strange reason. I always tell her a blind man would be happy to see those seats.
Thanks again Eddie 82 911 SC |

no problem.
i don't have the side panels either. just the seats. i love the pattern! i can see i'm also in the minority here with my choice of fabric. something i've always gotten a kick out of is how "EUROPEAN" Porsche interiors are. i get a lot of giggles looking at the dealership brochure for my 924. not only is everyone in the most funky "earth tones" 1970s clothing.. but there's a european tilt to it. kind of like "wow, nobody in the US would be caught dead in those clothes, but they probably were high fashion back then in Europe". if i could, i'd get a full pasha interior like Ferdinand's 928... all the way down to the carpets. i have a personal saying that goes "it's so right, it's wrong; and it's so wrong, it's right." in other words, the psychedelic interior is something you would ask for just because you know that there is no other car in the entire world ever made that it would look cool in. Jess and I noticed something a few years ago... 914s look good in ANY colour. we've seen everything from lime green street cars to flourescent pink race cars. no matter the colour, they look like it was meant for the car. there are also colours that look terrible on a lot of porsche street cars. the dark brown that looks awesome on a 1980s 911 looks terrible on a 924. the dark blue on my 924 would look absolutely bad on a 356. yellow looks awesome on a 911 turbo, but sort of questionable on a 928. the only 4 colours that would look good on ANY porsche are black, silver, red, and white. obin |

Obin,
I had one of those flourescent green 914's. I loved the car with the exception of the fact that I swear I could almost hear it rusting away at night. I agree with your color perceptions. Certain colors for certain cars tend to match the design better. Eddie 82 911 SC |
