Short Shifter Installation problem
I bought a short shifter kit from our host about a year ago and finally got around to installing it today. I've got a problem with the new short shift lever. It looks like it is canted 45 degrees to the right. This might work if i was in the UK with a right-hand drive but doesn't work very well with my car here in Connecticut. Am i missing something here? Anyone else ever have this problem? I will get a picture and post it shortly.
Also, here is what the e-mail from Pelican says that I bought. It sure looks like i ordered the correct thing for my car. 911-424-931-00-M260 $174.00 Factory Original Short Shift Kit, 911 (1974-86) |

Yeah, that's messed up. Is the shift lever solid? Usually, the epoxy bonding the top and bottm breaks but that is after years of use. I would send it back. If it rotates you could have it welded.

I was into mine yesterday and indeed that is not indexed correctly - pretty embarrasing for the welder I would think!
Perhaps that is a special build for those that are missing a right hand and need to have the passenger shift. Nope - wouldn't work because the 5th/Reverse tab is also off. |
Return it to Pelican the bent part has been welded in 90 degrees off. I am sure that it will be replaced at no charge.

Thanks for the help on this. Pelican is making it right. They are shipping me a new short shift kit immediately and will provide a refund for the bad kit.

Is the pivot piece mounted correct or is it upside down? I just installed it this way and I dont see any difference in the throws.

the pivot piece is right in the pic.

I would suggest after installation and confirming all is well, you tack weld the two-piece lever so it will never separate. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1236383081.jpg Sherwood www.SeineSystems.com |
Thanks...I drove around a couple miles, what a difference. A few months ago I replaced all the bushings and made things better but the short shift is a smooth operator, no grinding either. Tommorrow I will dump the royal purple transmission oil and replace with swepco.
