Correct tire pressure
Running a set of Bridgestone RE-730's at 42psi (street use only). Mfg recommended maximum is 44 psi cold. I just happened to look at the rating on the tires on my wife's minivan and those are also max 44 psi cold. I run those at 30 psi typically.
Why the difference? Or, am I doing something wrong? Thanks, Mike |

The guidelines you should be using for tire pressure are those in the car's owners manual, not the pressure given on the sidewall of the tire by the tire mfg.
I run my 911 at about 28-30 all around. Others my have different opinions. Be careful, we don't want you pulling a Ford Explorer now! Nick. ------------------ __________ Nick Shumaker 1982 911SC Coupe |

The owners manual for my 82 SC says 29 PSI front, 34 PSI rear.

Yikes. . .kind of overlooked the obvious! My car came with 16" wheels and tires (now stacked neatly in the corner of the garage). I'm running 17" lower profile and wider tires, so I guess that's why I didn't think to check the manual. Just looked and for 255-40-17 (alternate) rears they recommend 36psi, same for 225-45's in front.
I just returned from the garage. . .now at 36 psi all around. Sometimes the obvious answer is toughest one to see. . . Thanks, Mike |

The factory suggested pressure of 44 psi is strictly intended for use on the Autobahn!!! It has caused MUCH consternation, and tire wear problems here in the USA!
I recommend the earlier recommended 'standard' pressures of 29/30 psi front and 34/35 psi in the rear! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
