78/78 usa 3.0 vs 83 row

I'm wondering how the cis systems differ on these engines. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks-
Craig Backer

78 /79 SC and 83 ROW are the same set ups both in inlet tube/ air box outlet dimensions and the fuel line set up- standard CIS.

FYI the usa 80-83 had lambda controlled frequency valves for further emissions control

Thanks again Dave!

So you're saying that an 83 Euro 3.0 uses no lambda system. Right?

correct- it had the same set up as the 78-79- right down to an air pump for the smog!

I thought the early SCs had plastic fuel lines, my '83 ROW has steel fuel lines, has the big 031 accumulator as opposed to the little 009 accumulator on the earlier car. You can search through the other Bosch part numbers on the Bosch USA site.

I have wiring for an 02 sensor on mine, and a sensor is fitted but there is no 'brain' and the O2 sensor is disconnected, wires tied up inside the fuse panel. I have a feeling that the cat/enlarged pre-muff & sensor was fitted for CA smog visual as my car lived in CA for 14 years having been delivered in Europe. It did have an air pump but that was recycled a long time ago.

u are correct on the accumulator, but someone added that oxs stuff to meet smog- euro cars did not have the feedback
the larger accumulator is nice to have on hot start up, but makes no difference on performance compared to the smaller one

Definitely Dave, my car dynos at the same 207.6 with either accumulator, but the big one has made a huge difference to the hot starts.

I figured the oxs stuff was a later addition, have been thinking about junking the pre-muffler and fitting a slimmer version, seeing if it adds to hp. Am selling soon so using the SSIs I got for it on the C3 instead.

I'm having a disagreement on what this system is. I believe it to be an 83 row 3.0 cis system. The numbers on the fuel distributor and wur are those of a euro row 3.0. I see no electical connection on the throttle body or a frequency valve. It also the large runners.

The person I'm talking to says it is a lamba controlled engine that uses large runners. Am I missing something?

Thanks-
Craig Backer

Looks familiar but some of that setup is different to mine. I don't have whatever that is by the number one injector linking back to the inlet manifold, my intake boot is different (different pattern over the surface though that may not be significant) and IIRC I do not have the y-piece breather hose, I believe mine to be separate but maybe I am wrong, not had it apart in a year or so.

The AAR and aux air valve on late RoW cars both have different part numbers from early cars according to my PET so maybe check those out? This is my number one runner:

craig- you have a non lambda controlled system there; just as you have figured out that it is euro.
There is no frequency valve, no frequency valve controlled fuel distrbutor, no extra lines etc
