915 tranny SC vs Mag parts swap

Guys the SC tranny I bought for my race car did not come with the SC clutch actuator arm, the omega spring, helper spring or the clutch cable mount. My racecar's original '74 915 mag box clutch assembly has a shorter pivot shaft lenght than the SC one, the clutch arm (what attaches to the clutch cable) is different too and has, of course, none of the SC helper spring stuff. Before I tear off the '74's tranny clutch parts to swap it to the SC tranny, I need to be sure they will actually work. Of course, I am under a tight deadline to make the Topeka club race in two weeks. I can not be wasting precious time. Your knowledge and BTDT experience is greatly appreciated. TIA.

I just rebuilt my 72 915 for my race car using an SC tranny. I can't say if your clutch arm parts will swap but I suspect they would. It might be easier though to do what I did and use the Mag case with the SC guts. I swapped the input and pinion shafts from the SC to the old case. You need to swap bearings as well so they are matched to the races. You can also mix and match gears as you wish.

Andy, not really an option on swapping cases. In PCA Stock class racing, I have to have an alumium case (with right numbers) if my '74 is going to be an updated Euro SC. I just spent a bunch of $$ getting SC CV shafts and stub axles as well. The tough part is the some of the SC tranny components are NLA anymore and the major used Porsche parts places are saying they do not have the stuff either. Unfortunately, I have a daily driver SC in fine driving order (my Weissach) that might have to give up some SC parts everytime I have to go racing... Not an optimum situation and that is why I posted this thread.

Hi Bill,

I went through a similar swap but the other way around, I took the clutch actuator parts (shaft, small and big lever, omega spring, .clutch cable bracket, ...) and put them on my 72E tranny. It fits and works well for me. I did have to grind some of the case to clear the clutch cable but you might not have to do that part since you are going the other way around. It's been a while but I remember having trouble with the length with some of the diff cover plate studs when swapping the clutch cable brackets.
