Guru assistance needed!
I am rebuilding my door panels, replacing speakers, door handle & flag mirror seal, etc. Once I re-assembled the door handles the locking linkage quit functioning. I am not sure where the issue is and it's difficult to inspect the linkage inside the door. Is there a trick to this activity??? Comments please. Thanks, Jeff __________________ Targa4now 1981 911SC Targa |

If you removed the door handle, maybe,,just maybe the 'dog' on the door handle isn't in the center of the locking mechanism. Did you disassemble the door handle? If so,you can get that and the locking mechanism all 'farkled' up. It takes a bit of study but I'm sure you figure it out.

roadslayer is right, the lever pin on the back of the handle needs to be between the arms of the "Y" part on the latch. if it isn't it will keep the latch from locking. i know this by making the same mistake a few times.

Thanks Guys.
I did not rebuild the door handle. I was more concerned with the seals on the outside and opening and closing the door that the locking linkage. Time to purchase the telescoping mirror! Thanks for your advice. Jeff ______________________ Targa4now 1981 911SC Targa |

Actually, you should be able to see up in there with a flashlight. You do have the door panel removed.Right? It's a pretty simple mechanism once you see how it works. Only took me aboout 15 times to get it right.
