Engine test stand

Hello,

Anyone got any good ideas on building a test stand. I'm going to build one soon and I'm looking for ideas.

Thanks,
Bryan

Engine test stand......

Bryan,

I have been making sketches and diagrams for an engine test stand the last couple of days. All the parts needed are available and sitting in my work area waiting to be assembled. The spare engine is coming in a couple of weeks so I'm really motivated to get this thing done this month.

This is the part that took me a while to obtain:

The next stage is to finalize the wiring diagram in conjunction with the 14-point connector in the wiring harness (SC).

Wayne said that there are more pics on the CD that came with the engine rebuild book.

I can't find that CD at the moment. Does anyone have a copy of those pics?

VW trans housing....

911quest,

Have you tried the VW housing on a 911 motor? This the VW bug trans. housing:

And this is the 915 bell housing:

The difference between these two (2) are: the starter mount hole for starter gear, and the length (not visible on the photos) of the housing that wraps around the pressure plate and clutch disc unit. The 915 is much wider than the VW housing.

I am not sure VW housing will fit right over 911 pressure plate/clutch unit. Could someone comment on this? Thanks

Tony

You only need to fit it over the flywheel( you dont need the clutch,pp to run the engine)

You're correct......

BT1211,

Somehow, I've always put the complete assembly and never thought running it with flywheel only. That's why this board is so helpful and educational to all that follow this board. The 911 starter will not work with this VW casing without additional fab. Compare the starter mounting configuration.

Thanks for the tip.

I think you have to use a VW "self supporting" starter. They are used on the auto-stick trans. I'll post some pics of each starter later.
