Fair price for decklid and tail?
Am considering selling original black 1987 Carrera decklid and tail-both excellent condition. What is a fair asking price FOB PNW??
I replaced w/ plain lid as i found the whale tail detracts from the beautiful 911 silhouette IMHO... Thanks all! |

I bought a decklid and tail from another member of this board last summer. I think it was around $750 or so, if memory serves. I came back later and paid $100 for all of the AC stuff. The tail had a small crack in the fiberglass grill, and a small chuck missing from another spot on one of the louvers. It was nothing to have those parts fixed, since I was having it repainted professionally anyway.
The original purchase covered the decklid, tail with rubber strip, rear wiper and motor. Parts not included in the sale were the decklid light, latch, rubber bumpers, and second decklid strut. I had to buy the rear script, rubber bump stops, second decklid strut, and I went the extra mile and bought a right side deck hinge from a salvage yard. I had some small costs for wiring, connectors, factory wiper switch, diode, heat shrink tubing, new refrigerant and condensor seals, etc. My total extra costs were about $1,200.00 including $850.00 for repainting the decklid, tail, and hinge. So total cost for me was about $2,000. Seems fair when I think about it. I'm quite happy with a tail assembly that looks totally factory. I can switch everything back to factory non-tail later too. |
