Clutch alignment tool - substitute?

Man, I forgot to order the clutch alignment tool this past week and I was hoping to have my tranny mated to the engine this weekend. Is there another way to align the clutch when mounting it?

I’m not afraid to use duct tape… :)

You can buy a new one. I know some domestic alignment tool will work. I think it is from an old Chevy. Someone will post who knows for sure.
Probably a $10 or less item at your favorite parts store.

My alignment tool has this printed on the top: "FORD 03"

pressure plate bolt size

That was fast.. I guess while I am asking, I am searching Pelican but unable to fine the pressure plate bolt size. One of the cap screws has seen better days and I was hoping to get a replacement. I think its an 8 1.25 45MM or 48MM. It is slightly shorter than my CV bolts.

autozone, advance discount autoparts etc will have it. I got both of mine there (915 and 930 sizes) under 10 bucks. bring your disc for the spine set. and a pilot I seem to recall one of mine was a mitsu.

one other thing, don't try doing it without one it will really suck.

I already put it on just to see how much it sucks, then I came in and posted! I did not tighten the bolts, just wanted to see what I was up against.

I too use the cheapo Ford alignment tool. Any auto parts store should have them for a few bucks.

Don't install one without proper alignment. It would really suck to get the engine in place and then not be able to install it into the transmission.

No, I will get one before the weekend and do it right. I was just doing the prep work to see what I forgot.

Anyone with PET want to give me the size of the pressure plate bolt so I can replace the one with the screwed up head? Please....

Looks like M8 x 42 in the US PET for 78-83 years.
