Anyone knows this Speedster?

speedster on a 1977 chassis

I have always wanted a Speedster. I understand that this is not an original but it LOOKS good.

Anyone knows this car? Possibly, has anyone seen it personally? Talked to the owner?

If my emotions get the best of me, anything I should ask the owner? Warnings about the retrofit? Pitfalls?

I know I am asking a lot, but I would appreciate any input.

p.s.,

Too bad I missed the one John Walker was selling!

A little much for just a roller, with the added liability of smog in CA. Would be worth more....to me if it was a 75 or earlier and exempt.

This should probably be in the Marketplace Discussion forum, but I'm not the police, s I'll comment. I think if you can do all the work, the car is uber clean, and the removal was clean leaving only re-hookups to do, it might be viable.. But..., only if you want to be in the car all of what it will ever be worth. And that depends on its history which has to be super clean. No accidents and no salvage title.

You can get a newer, lower mileage 3.6 for it, but it's probably gonna cost 10K one way or another and you still have to find a trans, which I believe are selling for north of $2500. Possibly a combo would be a little less. Better check out the prices of these before you jump in. You will most likely have to take the car to a smog referee if you don't put the same your engine back in.

Lastly, I'd want to know why the engine and tranny are out of the car and not available. I don't wish to anger the person selling this car. but I think the idea of buying a car, stripping to motor/tranny out for a hot rod, and then reselling the car for to cover some of the cost is somewhat wrong. I don't know that this is the case, but that's one way to get a motor for less than the outright cost.
