I'm new to the world of Porsche; introduced to it by my wife and I can't believe I spent this many years without one (Porsche, not wife). (I also cannot believe how similar the car is to the '63 Beetle that I chopped into a dune buggy back in high school, but that's another story.) We just purchased an '85 3.2 Targa, and I would love to have a really good technical service manual for it. I picked up a Haynes manual, but it's pretty useless. Anyone have a recommendation? Is there a de-facto standard for Porsche manuals?

Thanks everyone. Bently it is. I'll get the pics as soon as he gets home; he's getting his cruise control working. I hope.

Bently, but even they get it wrong on occasion. If a passage in the Bently seems "wrong" check with this list.

I think they only have a Bentley for the 1978-83 911SC, so somethings like the engine will be different. But I agree, any question you have can be answered with your digital camera and this great Pelican board.
Welcome! Post some pics of your new fun!

The factory manual costs $500 and the copy I have they didn't turn the fusor on long enough in the Xerox machine. The toner transfers to adjacent pages and they stick together. If there is a copy write infringement CD out there of this document I deserve a copy.

The factory manuals are nice, but they were written for factory trained wrenches. It is assumed that the reader knows more than the average weekeng tinkerer.
I have a complete set, and even though I'm just a weekend tinkerer, I really like them. If Bentley made a manual for early cars with late engines, I'd have one for sure. |
