Bell crank, G50
If you did something bonehead like installed a 3.2 with G50 in the car without the bellcrank attached to the tranny..
What would be the least stupid/ least INTRUSIVE way to get the damn thing mounted? -get creative. thanks

You mean the release fork right?
I dont think it will fit through the inspection hole, may-do with some intelligent wiggling. Failing that you may be able to separate the tranny and engine whilst still i the car and sneak it in the gap - I dont think this is a really good idea though as you will be straining mounts and taking a gamble putting your hands between the engine and box. Third option is to drop it and do it again on the floor :-( I have removed and installed the cross shaft with the engine installed but I managed to keep the fork in position, I thought at the time it would be hard to dig it out the bottom of the bell housing should I have dropped it. Good luck whatever you do.

nope, bellcrank. the pivot pin on the side of the tranny that links the front throttle cable to the rear throttle linkage.
The pin that it sits on it about 3 inches long, and the banana arm is about 2 inches past that.. install your enagine and tranny together, and the 3 inch bellcrank won't slide into a 2 inch space. I saw on a message last night from long ago that ".. damn near have to do a partial drop to get to the bell crank.." Normally, I'd just try to unscrew the pin from the tranny, but I've broken too many parts on this build and given wayne too much money due to that train of thought.. this time I'll ask first. Yeah, look at this, 911-423-227-00-OEM Bell Crank Pin, 911/911 Turbo (1974-89) Brand: Genuine Porsche No Longer Available Figures I'd probably snap it, or sawzall it.

I don't know specifically about a G50, but this winter I replaced the bushings on both my bellcranks in my '76. The trans bellcrank was removed by jacking up the banana with respect to the bellcrank, leaving just enough room to pull the bellcrank off the pin. The old bushings had to be pried from bellcrank first, so the bellcrank had enough clearance to the pin to angle the bellcrank off the pin with the banana jacked out of the way. It just barely made it. Installation was the reverse: Don't pre-install the inner bushing in the bellcrank; just slide it on the pin. You will need all the bellcrank/pin clearance you can get. Obviously, this worked for a 915. Y(G50)MMV.

HI eskimo the "bell crank" can be fitted if you remove the gear-linkage from the front of the box and pop the jack under the engine/box , remove the box cross member bolts and lower the box down to clear the suspension , put one of your "jack stands" under the end of the box as a safety measure, if you remove the pin/pivot from the box, you will loose the box oil out of the bolt hole.

I understand now, dont cut it.
You can get this on/off easily by jacking the car under the left side banana arm near the hub - this pushes the arm out the way and you can slide it on/off, I did this just last week.

That was actually my next try.. just as soon as I get home from work... I did try to compress the suspension from the other side, but I couldn't get enough weight on that rear tire to make a difference..
A friend of mine who's not into safe things suggested I jack the whole car from the rear drivers wheel.. I was pondering it, but was going to see if it was suggested here. Excellent. "off to sever my arm in the bandsaw! wish me luck!"

1 other thing that helped with leverage was to install 1 plastic bush on the pivot, slide the bellcrank on then push the other bush on.

I was able to get it..
-jacking the suspension didn't work, so I dropped the tranny on a jack. I know it was the OBVIOUS way to do it, buut when initially installing engine the other night we had a hell of time getting the alignment right on shift for, tranny mounts, engine mounts -all that crap. when thinking that was thonly the way to do it, I was hoping for easier options. In reality, it took me 15 minutes doing it that way, compared to the 'blood from rock methods' that I tried instead. (because everything was previously aligned, and the rear mounts weren't touched.)
