Upgrading to Power Seats
I am going to upgrade the seats in my 83 sc to power; could someone suggest the gauge of wire to run from the battery to the seat to power them?
Also, I would like to put a "in line" fuse, any suggestions as to the size fuse? The seats are out of a 86 and it looks like they have warmers in them |
I installed pwr seats with overkill 12ga wire. I use 10amp circuit breakers on each. Without looking at the seat motor specs 14ga and 5amp CB may sufice. General text should state to operate the motor at 70% of breaker amps. Marine supply has nice CBs.

What is the difference in weight between the seats? Might be easy to find a customer for the manual adjusment seats.

no hard info but the pwr seats is noticably heavy and with the heater it's very noticably heavy. |
a non-power sport seat from 84-89 is ~ 37 lbs.
a powered (4-way) RS-A seat from a 93 is ~ 47 lbs I used 12 gauge w/o any additional fuses, as I drew power from a terminal on the fused side of the main fuse block. Bill K |
Thanks for the info; I already have the seats
when you refer to Marine Supply is the a general reference to a marine supply store or the actual name of the store--I know, silly quesiton |

general reference marine electrics have to meet higher standards than auto electrics. many good stores but a popular one is www.westmarine.com |
I used 12ga. wire as well.
