M+K vs Monty Muffler

M+K vs Monty

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Am deliberating about whether to get the:

M+K Single In and Out ....or the Monty Single in and Out
Also whether to go for the Fabspeed Cat ByPass or just stick with what I've got on my stock 89 Carrera now?

Opinions are much appreciated please share your experience. Cheers Rich

I've heard the M+K and have the Monty.. The M+K is completely different.

If me I'd listen to both on a stock 3.2 even if you have to go to a PCA Driver's Ed or whatever your local 911 guys use.

Had the Monty. Ok. Loud V8 rumble.
Have the M+K now (with SSI's). I like it much better. Higher pitch flat 6 sound.
Go the M+K.

ok.. so my personal opinion

The Monty is kinda dead to my ear w/ a factory FI engine.
Monty sounds great with some cam overlap and carbs.. which I have.

The M+K is well built, nice welds, fits nice and will give better ear with a stock engine.

Hi,

The higher pitched flat 6 sound is the sort of sound I want, but is it more caused by the SSI's or by the M&K muffler? I'm just asking because it would be great if I could get it with a one/one M&K rather than go to all the hassel of SSI's.

I have a Monty single in, 3" single out with a Fabspeed Cat ByPass. It has a nice deep rumble and is not too loud.

I have never heard a M+K so I can't compair the sound.
I've had the Monty for almost 10 years and have been very happy with the fit, quality and the sound.

The higher pitched flat 6 sound is a result of the SSI's as they are designed like the original early 911 heat exchangers.

Shouldn't you buy based on performance and not sound? Unless the sound is annoying I suppose.

The sound is going to be far more important then the 0-5HP you might gain.

I have a single in dual out muffler that was made by M&K for my 87 Carrera. I have stock heat exchangers and a cat. My car definitley has a much deeper growl than it did with the stock muffler. It does actually have a bit of a V8 sound to it at lower RPMs. At about 5,000 revs. the note is more of a wail or scream that sounds more like a proper racing 911 than a V8.

The craftmanship is top of the line on the M&K. Moreover, the M&K weighs 12lbs less than my stock muffler. That is a good place to take weight off a 911...

Finally, I had to switch back to my stock muffler today for a smog check. I have to admit there is something to be said for the stock sound as well. I am, however, glad I have both so I can switch back and forth as the mood strikes me.

Mike

I'll post as sonn as it's on for first impressions.

Drat! That's a shame. It's a sound I would like but it seems such a pain switching to SSI's and getting the heat hooked back up - can't decide whether it's worth the hassel or not.

Switching to SSIs is really not that hard to do. All you really need is the time to do it.
In terms of muffler, I would go M&K. Not only is the craftmanship top notch, but you will also have excellent customer service to support the product.

I just instaled my M&K on my 71e along with with a host of other engine & suspention upgardes.

I must say that the sound from my flat 6 turns heads like never before. I love it... Thanks Ben...

I installed my 2in 2out M&K a couple of months ago and I absolutely love it. I had SSIs with a stock muffler on the car before the change, but it still sounded pretty subdued. The M&K has a great low rumble at idle and a beautiful screaming howl at higher rpms that is totally addictive. I think it sounds a lot like a 70s Porsche racecar. I bought the 2in 2out and sometimes cap the 2nd outlet for the street - still sounds great, but is a lot quieter.

Yeah, but it's connecting the heat up on my carrera which worries me. I know there's been numerous threads about it, but no-one seems to have an ideal solution to it.
