Help ID wires for 6 pin CD connector

The harness has been hacked and I'm trying to confirm the correct connections for the wires and ID the red one. Is it a switched 12V power in to the CD box? Are all my other labels correct? The engine is a '80 3.0 and car is a 70 T. Thanks

Mark,

You have them correct. You can verify using the designations on the side of the unit.

Hmm.........not only does it look hacked, it looks fried.
Checking the SC-Bentley 280-9, your plug could be right depending which is top or bottom.
Meaning: 1 & 4 could be where 3 & 6 is.

The home-made wire 1 & 4 in your picture should be the proper coax signal wire from the distributor given as #7 and #31d on the Bosch CDI module.

2 & 5 are Power and Tach signal (#15 and TD Bosch)
#15 gets power from fuse #22 with OEM wiring.

3 & 6 are pos. side coil and ground (A and 31/1 Bosch)

The OEM Bosch plug can only be installed one way to prevent accidental switching.

Thanks Guys. The connector has the numbers on it in the order on the picture. The white coax runs out to a connector about 6" from the distributor, then goes to green on the other side of connector to the distributor.

Jamie, I took your advice and pulled the wiring off the 2.2 and split it. That harness wan in much better condition. For now, I can use the 6 pin from the 3.0.

Cool 6 pin info............

On my SC the wiring is as follows. Looking down on the wiring harness plug with the bevel edges towards you they are:

1. front left = system ground
2. front middle = tachometer signal
3. front right = signal ground (green wire shield)
4. back left = coil hot +12 volts
5. back middle = switched +12 volts
6. back right = signal (green wire center connector)

Hope this helps!

Ed - Evrything id in except wiring and axles. The CV's are clean and ready to grease up and reinstall. Wiring should about 4 hours to complete. Gas tank is in, shifter insalled and adjusted. I hope to light it this weekend.

Good luck to you! I'm headed to Houston this weekend for the ALMS race, otherwise I'd like to come by and check it out.

BTW, I'm going in a different direction on the engine thing:

Some bent valves....the P's and C's look good, but will be checked for dimensional tolerance. Got a thread going on the build side..

Got my engine down to longblock status & got a bit of a surprize

Mark,

That looks like a Permatune conversion kit harness connector ...

Here is their tech/installation page:

http://www.permatune.com/T-ignition-Porsche-911SC.html

From their page:

1 = System ground == '31/1' . . . 4 = Coil + Hot (coil - to ground) == 'A'

2 = Tachometer signal == 'TD' . . . 5 = Power == '15'

3 = Signal ground, Green wire shield == 31d . . . 6 = Signal A) Green wire center conductor == '7'

I could hear Mark screaming yippee when he got the post from Early S all the way over on my side of town.
