Paint code for our Carrera Panamericana entry (pix)
Any of you guys know what the paint code was for the racing spyders of the 50's/60's? My partner and i are painting our 1965 Ghia entry (yes, i know, don't laugh, but the cost of race prepping was 1/100 that of a '65 911 or 912). Was the paint color/ code for the Porsche racers of this era all the same?
We are turning this ![]() Into something that looks like this (color and graphics wise) ![]() Plus, if we do this ![]() Or this ![]() it won't hurt so much (financially speaking). Anyway, the Ghia, though never raced, is a spirtually decendant of the spyder and 356's, esp with our 1600 built motor. thanks to all

That would Silver Metallic, code 5606. Used from 1956-65. Go to http://www.glasurit.com and click on search for a formula. A second window will open and the do your search for the formula. There is a 55 and 90 paint line available in that color.
Don't scratch it up too much. ![]()

Great idea to use a Ghia. Its always been a favorite of mine and looks like more fun per mile cost than lots of other entrys. Good luck guys. Keep the pics coming. Any hop up ideas going into it?

Yeah, the cost of preparing this thing is rediculously low compared to other rides. I've done the cage, paint and interior strip, and my partner down in Alabama is building a 100+ hp 1600 cc bulletproof motor. We are also installing the usual susp upgrades and discs all around. This thing is faily light (should see 120- whooo!!!- on the long straights), and handles great when set up right. What we lack in HP, we hope to make up for in handling and durability (just like the original spyder) Should be a fun race. It's my first Carrera and the 20th anniversary of the modern race along the route of the old one. Will keep pix coming if there seems to be interest here.

Yes pics of the progress and race. Thanks. A friend and neighbor of mine while I grew up in California had one in the late 60's. While some of us drove 1950's MGs, Alfas, Healeys ( including me in the Alfa and Healey) plus hopped up mid 50 Chevy's and Fords cars we looked at it as more of a cruiser since it was so civilized and graceful. Only a couple of guys I knew drove Porches since they were so expensive...and still are come to think of it.

Sure thing. Were doing this old school. A shakedown at Barber Motorsports Park in the weeks before the race in October, and an engine break-in and chassis tweaking by driving it across the border and part of the way to wherever the the race starts (TBA) in southern Mexico (probably Villahermosa)!

Very nice! Have any of you taken a Beck spyder to this race? seems like it might keep that cost down while keeping the fun factor high.

Only orginal cars up to 1965 allowed. Some allowance was made for a well-done Martin and Walker 906 replica with hot Andial built 2.0 several year ago, but not a generic glass Becks. Need full cage anyway. The old days of minimal driver safety are over anyway... doubt they would even let one of the original open spyders run it without a real cage.
