which duck tail to get?

I am looking for a duck tail for my RS clone and would like to know which aftermarket tail has the highest quality. Thanks.

I've got one from AIR and haven't had one complaint, just make sure you get the heavier street car weight fiberglass and not the racing weight fiberglass. The racing weight is too light for street car use. Required very little fitment, very high quality IMO.

we sell both makes (air and getty) and getty is the best for fit and make... period

I had a ducktail from GT-Racing on my 84. It was practically a bolt on part.

On the other hand my GT Racing ducktail took extensive work to get it to fit.

I wonder if it has to do with carbon vs. glass? Mine was carbon as are a set of Hank's R fenders in carbon below. They also fit very well, the door-fender seam was nearly factory spec.

I've also heard MA Shaw makes good ducktails.

If I were you I'd send my deck to Sonjay aka Gary Stratton. He'll build you a true FG on steel duck tail that is superior to all others... your deck and $800 and it's done. He will have some at Hershey...

Does Gary have a prophet device or something other in order to get a paint match?

I have been fighting with an inferior duck tail for weeks. Finally get it to fit and have some paint mixed to the paint code Pacific metallic blue) on the car and its too gray. So it must have been resprayed with something close but not number correct or the paint guys messed up the mix.

So I have a ppg device put on the car and get a new mix but now its to violet. Its close since whatever color is on the rest of the car car flops from a steel blue/gray to a violet in yellow light (flop must be in the clear) while this 2 stage tail is flopping to the more violet side all of the time. In yellow light I can see the blue but the violet is the dominat pigment. Maybe try yet another mix...

I have a steel deck that has needs to be repainted due to crazing under the clear that would be perfect for a Gary tail... if he can get the paint closer than what i have done it would be worth it to put this tail behind me or in front of me while I drive over it.

Anyone know how he matches colors?

Not to mention paying top dollar on ebay for a metal grill that still doesn't quite fit the opening and its too late to cut more without painting again... arrg

Does anyone know how to contact Gary?

I have the Shaw one. It has quality layups and nice glass work. (my family has been in the FG business since the 60's so take my opinion for whatever it is worth).

But the gaps are a wee bit large, which is hard to fix, but overall I would recomend it and say it is a quality product. The large gaps help those with a car that has a "history"

Cheers

Gary does not have a web page yet.

Gary's phone # is(407)421-1911

Mine is on order. He told me he has spare lids if you need to buy one.
