Sunroof Project
I have the tech article for the sunroof repair, all the parts and im ready to go. But my sunroof isnt, it doesnt want to budge. It didn't work before and now I know something is stuck for sure. Does anyone have any tricks for getting it to move? I tried pushing it obviously and just prying it with a screwdriver to no avail. Has anyone had this problem?

MinusF117,
First of all, did you try to manually open the roof? If you unzip the headliner above the rear window you should be able to see the motor and transmission. There is a slotted drive in the transmission housing (sometimes covered by a cap) that you can put a special tool to manually crank the cables. You should have the tool with the car, but we know how that is...In the older cars it looks like an elongated "S" with a flat head screwdriver tip on one end. I don't know if this applies to newer models. If you can't crank it open manually, you can slide the liner of the roof panel back and unscrew the panel from the carrriers in the rails. This should be a last resort in that you may have to tear the liner to unclip the frame it's on from the leading edge of the roof panel, especially if the panel is snuggly closed. I had to do this on a 69 coupe as the cables had rusted in the rails and the panel was immovable. Hope this helps, sorry about no photos, but someone may be able to post a PET diagram for you. Minus,
Do a search in here for "sunroof repair". You will find every answer to every Q you might have (ask me how I know - after removing mine 6 different times *G*). |

yeah, anyways i managed to get it to budge, in the end i ended up hooking the gear part back on the motor and getting it to move just a tiny bit where it would get stuck, then i used my fingernail to find out one of the guides was broken and slid it all the way back. Then I just kinda worked the roof until it slid open. I have everything out now and tomorrow I will reassemble it. Thanks for the help guys, yeah i searched i was just wondering if anyone had any tricks that might help me.
