Factory short shift kit problem
 

Have a factory short shift kit to install on my 1984 911 trans. When I went to install the shift bar into the metal bracket (bracket with two holes for through pin) I had to hammer it in. I can shift back and forth but it is a little hard even with a ton of lube.
Should I take it apart and try to open up the bracket or grind the shift rod down?

Have you finished with the installation?
If you are just trying to move it with your hands and not using the leverage of it installed it will seem very tight. You want the linkage to be as snug as possible. I had to put mine in a vice to get it installed.
You do not want to grind your shifter arm, and I would not hammer on the shifting block. The blocks are known to be not that strong and mine failed shifting into first after a few thousand shifts. I had to take it apart and weld it together.
You should do search on the subject there's lots of info.
I would leave it. You certainly don't want any slop in your linkage. I say the tighter the better
