Electrical issues, need help; random wires etc.
Hello Pelicans,
I am in the process of fixing my fresh air ventilation system. When I slide the top lever to the right, the light comes on but no air moves. I took the system apartment in the luggage compartment and found that the motor felt seized and rusty. I took it apart and cleaned all of the connections and was able to get it spinning freely. However, it still did not work when I put it back together and plugged it in. So, I ordered a new blower motor from Pelican. Question: Is there some way of checking my rebuild? Could it be burned up by having power to it when it was rusty and seized? It looks like it is fixed, but is there something likely broken that you could not obviously see? It seems like a very basic motor, magnetic field with positive and negative... Next issue; when I pull the heater levers up, right and left lever both power the heater blower in the passenger footwell. The heated air comes out of the defrost vents, but not the floor. Moving the middle lever in the dash from left to right does not effect air circulation. I suspect that the cable is rusty. Also, I hear what sounds like debris in the blower so I am probably going to take it apart and clean and (lightly) lubricate as preventive maintenance. Question: Since the heater blower in the passenger side is working, can I use that plug to check the heater blower motor from the driver's side? I will of course, take the driver's side motor out and bring it over to the passenger side and plug it in. Finally, the car has many wires that are just cut off and stuffed everywhere under the dash. I pulled a wire from behind the passenger side heater blower cover that was clipped and not attached to anything. I followed the wire up under the dash to the drivers side and found it was cut in to wires attached to a blue box. (see picture) What is this blue box on the drivers side under dash? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1176991393.jpg There is another plug shown in this picture that is not plugged into anything. What is this black plug? What is it supposed to be hooked up to? Ok... This is a lot of stuff. Sorry for dropping so many issues in one thread. My final issue/question comes out of the "while you are in there" thought process. I want to run down every wire that I can find that is not properly terminated or hooked to something and delete the garbage wires. There are many leftovers from from previous stereos and ill conceived fixes for electrical problems (rewiring?). Is there a proven methodology for determining what is garbage and what is necessary (stock). Whew... I love tinkering and fixing. So I don't mind spending the time to clean up my electrical system. I think I need to buy some kind of meter to know if something is hot or not. What kind of tool do I need to do automotive electrical work? Thanks for your thoughts.. As always, I am grateful and will post pictures as I go to help out other folks when I get this all resolved. |

What is this plug under the dash on driver's side?

I went to Autozone and bought a multimeter. The plug that connects the fresh air blower to the car is getting power when the slider is in max position, but not when the slider is set to low or medium (according to the multimeter).
Has anyone ever been able to rebuild the fresh air blower fan motor? |
I took the one heater blower that works apart to see what it looks like. My other heater blower motor was definitely fried in comparison. Luckily, spring is here and I won't be in dire need of heat for nine months.
