911 steering lock

The steering lock on my 87 3.2 is faulty. It is worn and has engaged once while on the move!
Is there a way i can disable the steering lock,to save me having to buy a new one from porsche?(i am thinking the best way to do this is to just saw of the part that goes in to the steering column). Is this ok?
Thanks for any help.
Andrew

Welcome to the board. It's a very dangerous situation. You can disable it...but the best solution IMHO is to change the complete unit...check for a used one on the for sale section of Pelican...the brand new one is expensive...

Do a search. Many people have done this in more than one way. I simply hack-sawed off the locking bar on mine. A more elegant solution is to retract the locking bar and drill a hole through the ignition switch body and pin the locking bar in the retracted position.
