Fasten seat belts light misbehaving
It started a few months back, only when my girlfriend drove - the FASTEN SEAT BELTS light would come on, seemingly randomly.
We figured out that it had something to do with where she puts her left foot; by applying pressure in that area, the light could be made to come on. OK, there's a bad ground or connection somewhere there under the carpet ... but it's all glued (this is in the area of the useless pocket, between the footrest and the door pillar). Today, the light has come on solid. By poking around in the same area, I can make the light go out intermittently, but it won't stay off. The schematic shows me that there are several connectors between the seat belt socket and the lamp. Before I start tearing out the carpeting, could someone give me a clue of what I might expect to find? I have located the cable assembly that comes up out of the carpeted area. I'm thinking that maybe I can attach a string to the other end, pull up and do a repair without having to remove the carpet.... Thanks, chris

Check the alternator - my light and buzzer started acting funny just before the battery started boiling.

The alternator's a good thought, and I'll check it just to be sure, but ...
when I went out this evening, I noticed that having the handbrake up (and thus the brake light flasher engaged), the FSB light is off! All together now: "bad ground!" The only thing I did recently was install a set of coco floor mats ![]() (As soon as the rain stops. That was fun: the wiper fuse popped on the way home. I apparently got the switch stalk into an invalid state while switching from low to high!)

I'm installing new-to-me seats today (Recaro KRS), so I finally had occasion to investigate what was going on here. When I removed the driver's seat, I found a complete disaster in the coiled bundle of wires that connects to the seat! Here's what I cut off:
![]() Not only is the outer covering completely cracked, the inner insulation has cracked away almost completely. I'm sure this is going on in the entire harness, causing the short. I didn't pull the remaining harness, but I disconnected it under the dashboard...
