High Idle Solved - Still Won't start/ Hard to Start when Hot
 

Some of you may have been following my AAR saga. I slowly and somewhat methodically isolated the AAR as the source of my high idle problem. I replaced it with a rebuilt one from Parts Heaven and it idled down to less than 1000 rpm after about 7 minutes. Thank you to everyone who helped.

The second half of my ignition woes is this. Once the car does warm up, if it sits for more than 5 minutes after shutting it down, it won't start again (unless I use starter fluid).

My suspicion (from reading other threads) is that the fuel accumulator is not keeping the pressure up. Many people have mentioned I need to check my fuel pressure. (What tool do I use, where do I get it) What are some suggestions for my "Hot Start Problem".

I would replace the check valve in the head of the fuel pump. Cheap part and usually is the culprit on CIS motors....BTDT.

I didnt realize how expensive an accumulator is.

You probably don't have a check valve on your 81, my 80 didn't as it was integrated into the nose of the pump. You need to check your control pressures, specifically the amount of time it takes to reach zero psi after the car has been running.

The fuel accumulator and the fuel pump check valve seem to be the 2 most likely items to check. To check fuel pressures, there is a CIS fuel pressure gauge available from JC Whitney for around $70.
