ER Poly-Bronze bushing install problem.
 

I'm in the process of changing to the ER bushings. On the rear, I've put everything together but now the bolt holes don't line up.
I ground the T-Bar tubes flat and all seems to be square. If you hold the spring-plate cover out far enough you can start the bolts but they tighten up against the cover and then everything binds up. If you put in the top two it seems fine but the bottom bolts don't line up.
What did I miss, and what do I need to do?

Put washers in as shims to move the cover plate out far enough so that it doesn't bind up the spring plate. See if that also helps with the bolt alignment. Good luck.

Used the shims and even added an extra and still no good. I've pulled one of the inner bushings back out and will try to "index" it to the springplate and cover.

You might have gunk on the splines in the torsion tube. Is it happening on both sides? The torsion bars butt up to each other internally

Haven't installed the bars yet. Wanted to make sure everything worked smooth first. It is happening on both sides.
I've pulled the right side back out, removed the calking and put it back in. It's better but still a little stiff. So, I ground down the torsion tube even more to try and make sure it's even all the way around. I'll see if that helped more and then recalk.

The spuds for the mounting bolts are notoriously inaccurate.

You can put in a sacrificial bolt, and try to leverage on it to straighten the spuds. It takes a good eye, and some patience.

Also a good time to check for cracks around the spud welds. Very common.

Had this problem on one side but was ble to get bolts started with cover all the way out.
