Grady, what years of 901 transmission would be desimplified from the factory? I have a 67 912 5 speed (i believe its a 67 912 5 speed) in my car, would that be a simplified differential that I should dig into or is it de-simplified and I can leave it be?

I have a 901/13 and it appears that my scenario matches Jim Brown. Fortunately I have a machine shop at work and should be able to modify this without much trouble.

Regarding the flanges - I pulled these parts out of a 914 transmission. Out of curiosity, I compared the length of my existing flanges with that of the smaller 914 flanges and determined that my flanges were longer. I was concerned that this was due to the different "threaded piece" so the owner of the transmission stockpile went through his parts bin and found 911/Lobro axle flanges that matched the 914 flange length.

Now, it sounds like I need to machine the threaded pieces and use my original axle flanges. Perhaps the shorter flanges are due to a change in carrier size that is alluded to in the "MikeDL" thread mentioned earlier?

Happily I pulled out my flange bolt today and found that my diff has the correct setup. finally something I don't have to redo! do these bolts need to be replaced once they are loosened? i noticed they were called stretch bolts. also. does anyone know the correct toque for these? i'm having a hard time figuring that out fron the manuals.

Thanks.

I have a '71 911/01 trans that was re-geared to match a 2.7 liter RS spec MFI engine. It has a 7:31 ring+pinion gear and shorter drive ratios.

Is there a transmission number or production date that the switch was made to the non-simplified differential?

I am hoping for good news:confused:
