I HAVE NOT SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE
LOUD NOISES!!
UMMMM.... WHY EXACTLY ARE WE IN CAPS ANYWAY?

Do you have a pop-off valve? If so, could be stuck open or come loose and allowing air into intake. Symptoms are classic for a leak in the airbox somewhere, although you didn't mention anything about backfiring. Easy to check out.

I don't have heaps of experience or anything, but something similar happened to me. One of my injectors had popped out of the manifold and was hanging loose. Symptoms were similar to yours. I pushed it back in (push fit - strange) and then it ran fine from then on!

I checked the p.o. valve-- ill check the injectors, but wouldnt loose
injector spray gas everywhere

No problems, it is just a way to show you're shouting when posting on a forum.

The position of the gas pedal shouldn't be a factor in starting a 911 engine unless something is wrong. And, then that's not right, if you follow me.

Yes, a loose injector would spray and be dangerous AFA fire is concerned. If your car ran fine up to the point it was parked, if might not be that anyway. The symptoms you describe seem to be fuel and/or intake related.

I had a '77 for 15 years. Let me think a few more minutes.

Thanks milt

maybe????, it is just firing off of the cold start injector, and there is some reason that the injectors are not metering fuel. Maybe try to lift the air sensor plate, and see if you can hear it inject fuel.

when i did my search prior to posting- the only simptoms that matched were a car that ended up being out of gas! my gage shows 1/2 full.
my next step will be add 6 gls from gas can. ive had work late the last
couple nights.ill add gas wed. i can hear gas in tank- cant tell how much.

again, sorry for previous caps-i didnt know!

If the engine starts and then immediately dies both warm and dead cold, this could be an interesting problem. I wonder if the fuel filter is at fault. How it would suddenly clog is beyond me unless it ate some water. I believe a fuel pressure test is in order.

spikej40m 04-24-2007 06:29 PM

the same w/ the gas thing-yes the gage could be erratic--but it was running great when i pulled into driveway.
but ill take it a step at a time

spikej40m 04-24-2007 07:57 PM

1st step--add 6 gl gas
2nd step-- fuel pres. check-- ill let you know
thanks

spikej40m 11-30-2007 04:33 PM

The problem ended up being erratic fuel pump operation
-- replaced pump--runs great now
